Jewellery Care

Your Nimra Atelier pieces are finished with 14k or 18k gold PVD over stainless steel. PVD is a hard, bonded finish rather than a thin surface plating, which is why it holds up far better than standard gold plating. It still benefits from a little care.

Everyday Habits

  • Last on, first off. Put your jewellery on after perfume, hairspray, sunscreen and lotion, and take it off before you undress. Alcohol and oils in cosmetics are the most common cause of dulling.
  • Take it off before water. Remove your jewellery before showering, bathing or swimming. Soap, shampoo, chlorine and salt water all wear the finish down over time. Our pieces are water-resistant, so washing your hands or getting caught in the rain won't harm them — but they aren't meant to be worn in water.
  • Take it off for the gym, cleaning and sleeping. Sweat, household chemicals and constant friction against bedding will wear a finish faster than daily wear will.

Cleaning

Wipe pieces down with a soft, dry cloth after wearing. This alone removes most oils and prevents build-up.

For a deeper clean, use lukewarm water with a drop of mild soap, work gently with your fingers or a very soft brush, rinse, and dry completely with a lint-free cloth before storing.

Never use bleach, ammonia, alcohol, abrasive pastes, silver dip solutions or ultrasonic cleaners. These strip PVD finishes and are not covered by our return policy.

Pearls and Stones

Pearls are porous and need gentler handling. Wipe them with a soft, slightly damp cloth only, never soak them, and keep them away from soap and perfume entirely.

Storage

  • Store pieces in the pouch or box they arrived in, away from direct sunlight and humidity.
  • Keep chains separate so they don't tangle or scratch each other.
  • Fasten clasps before putting a necklace away, and lay chains flat rather than folding them.

A Note on Wear

Gold PVD is durable but not indestructible. Rings worn on the dominant hand and bracelets that knock against desks and steering wheels will show wear sooner than earrings or pendants. Looking after them well makes a real difference to how long they stay bright.
